We have an exciting September ahead of us! We will begin our exploration of close reading texts and analyzing media. We will use this knowledge to delve into the history of New Mexico. We will begin our investigation with Chaco Canyon and take a closer look at how landforms have an impact on settlements. In addition, we will continue to understand the value of numbers and the importance of this understanding. We will start to transition this knowledge to the four operations and problem solving. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or teaching ideas!
On the first day of school the students were given the challenge of designing their perfect classroom. They assessed their needs and wants. They then observed the materials they had to work with. Students worked in groups to create a map of the classroom. They presented their ideas and decided together which ideas to implement. The end result is fantastic! The students decided to use bookshelves as our standing work space, create a reading space, take legs off tables to create a sitting work space, and use some material to make a shade for the window. They worked collaboratively to create a space that they can call their own! I look forward to the amazing learning that they will be doing in this space.
Happy first week of the 2016/2017 school year! I am excited to begin a year filled with learning!
